The Flatwoods 'monster' (1952) is arguably a machine misread as a creature (see its own entry); Pascagoula, Mississippi (October 11, 1973) is the definitive robotic-entity case. The Cisco Grove, California case (September 1964) featured a robot-like entity alongside more organic, hairy humanoids during the same encounter.

Physical description

Entities that move mechanically or appear artificial: metallic or rubbery surfaces, stiff or gliding motion, absent or minimal facial features. The archetype is the Pascagoula being — roughly 1.5 m, grey wrinkled 'elephant skin', carrot-like protrusions for a nose and ears, lobster-claw pincer hands, and legs that seemed fused into a single supporting column, floating rather than walking as it moved the witnesses.

Skeptical reading

Robotic entities peak precisely during the 1973 flap, when occupant reports of all kinds surged under saturation media coverage. Skeptics note that Hickson and Parker's Pascagoula account survived a secretly recorded private conversation between the two men (often cited by believers as proof of sincerity, since neither knew he was being taped) but attribute the experience to a hypnagogic state after night fishing, followed by narrative hardening under press attention. Sincerity and accuracy are separate questions — Pascagoula remains the field's great case study in that distinction.
