Jaime Maussan

Jaime Maussan is Mexico's best-known UFO broadcaster and, for over three decades through his program Tercer Milenio, has been the single most influential figure shaping Latin American public engagement with the UFO subject, building an audience across Mexico and much of Spanish-speaking Latin America unmatched by any other regional ufologist. Maussan gained major international attention for his coverage of Mexico's substantial wave of reported sightings in the 1990s, including footage from the 1991 solar eclipse, and later for widely circulated infrared video footage from Mexican Air Force pilots in 2004, cases that brought unusual mainstream credibility to his platform. However, his career has also been repeatedly marked by high-profile promotion of claims later thoroughly debunked, most damagingly a 2015 presentation of an alleged Roswell alien-body photograph that investigators traced to a museum mummified-child specimen, and, most consequentially, his September 2023 presentation to the Mexican Congress of two small, allegedly non-human 'mummies' recovered in Peru, which he claimed were roughly 1,000 years old and genetically non-human; independent genetic analysis published years earlier had already identified similar specimens as composed of human and animal remains, and Mexico's national university publicly distanced itself from any dating claims attributed to it. This pattern has made Maussan a deeply polarizing figure: enormously influential in shaping regional public belief, and repeatedly implicated in some of the field's most consequential hoaxes.
