Abducted: How People Come to Believe They Were Kidnapped by Aliens

A Harvard psychologist studying false-memory syndrome interviewed self-identified abductees as a control group for trauma research and concluded their beliefs arose from ordinary psychological processes — sleep paralysis, source-monitoring errors, and culturally available explanations — reinforced by hypnosis and suggestion, without dismissing the sincerity of the believers themselves.
