Leslie Kean

Leslie Kean is an American investigative journalist whose career predates and extends well beyond ufology, including acclaimed reporting on end-of-life care and, distinctly, on cases suggestive of reincarnation. Her 2010 book UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record compiled sworn statements and documented testimony from military and aviation officials worldwide, using a deliberately sober, evidence-first approach that avoided speculation about extraterrestrial origin and focused instead on demonstrating that credible, credentialed witnesses were reporting genuinely unexplained aerial phenomena. That reputation for rigor made her the natural reporter, alongside Ralph Blumenthal and Helene Cooper, for the New York Times' December 2017 investigation that revealed the Pentagon's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) and published the Nimitz 'Tic Tac' video, an article now widely credited with launching the modern era of mainstream UAP acceptance and triggering the congressional hearings, task forces, and legislation that followed. Kean has continued UAP reporting since, co-founding the nonprofit newsroom The Debrief and contributing further investigative pieces, while maintaining unusually strict sourcing standards relative to much of the UFO media ecosystem, a discipline credited with helping the 2017 story survive scrutiny that sank many earlier disclosure claims.
