Uyrangê Bolivar Hollanda Lima

Uyrangê Hollanda was a captain in the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira) who, in 1977, was chosen to lead Operação Prato (Operation Saucer), a small, secret military task force sent to the riverside town of Colares in Pará state after local mayors reported that residents were being attacked by mysterious aerial lights known locally as 'chupa-chupa,' which reportedly left burns and puncture-like marks on victims. With a team of only himself and six sergeants, equipped with a theodolite, cameras, and tape recorders rather than any weapon, Hollanda's unit documented what he later described as nine distinct types of aerial objects across roughly four months, producing hundreds of photographs and several films, all forwarded to Air Force headquarters in Brasília and, according to Hollanda, never returned to him. Bound by military secrecy at the time, Hollanda remained publicly silent about the operation for two decades until giving a detailed 1997 interview to Brazil's Revista UFO magazine, which transformed Operação Prato from an obscure rumor into one of the most thoroughly documented cases of a government military unit being formally tasked with investigating UFO activity anywhere in the world. Brazilian researchers have noted that Hollanda later died by suicide, a fact that continues to fuel speculation, unconfirmed by any official account, about the psychological toll the operation and its aftermath of enforced secrecy may have taken on him.
