Reconstruction based on witness descriptions
Physical description
Smaller and more overtly insect-like than the Mantids they are typically reported alongside: compact, roughly human-height or shorter figures with beetle- or roach-like exoskeleton sheens, multi-jointed limbs, and small mandible-like mouth structures rather than the Mantid's triangular 'face.' Abduction accounts place them at the bottom of an implied entity hierarchy, performing repetitive procedural tasks under Mantid or Grey direction rather than communicating with witnesses directly.
Skeptical reading
Skeptics treat the entity hierarchy itself (Mantid supervisors, Grey technicians, insectoid laborers) as a narrative structure imported wholesale from workplace and factory imagery, elaborated across repeated hypnosis sessions with investigators who already expected a caste system. No insectoid-worker report exists independent of a hypnotic-regression session, making it one of the least corroborated entries in the bestiary even by the abduction literature's own low evidentiary bar.
