Physical description
A short (roughly 1.2-1.5 m), thin bipedal creature reported with oily brown or reddish-brown skin, a large head with three small bumps or protrusions, deep-set glowing red eyes, and legs that bent backward like a dog's or kangaroo's hind limbs. Witnesses described a foul, sulfurous odor and a demeanor read alternately as terrified or menacing rather than calm — closer to a cornered animal than a composed 'occupant.'
Skeptical reading
Jacques Vallée personally investigated Varginha for 'Confrontations' (1990's field chapters extended in his later fieldwork) and treated the witness inconsistencies as evidence of a real, if garbled, high-strangeness event layered under local rumor. Mainstream skeptics favor a more mundane chain: an escaped, malnourished blue-and-gold macaw or a starving, mange-afflicted feral animal (some point to a real capybara or emu escapee from a nearby zoo) misperceived by frightened, sleep-deprived teenagers, then amplified by a Brazilian tabloid press hungry for a home-grown Roswell during a slow news month.
